Cleaning Advice

While following the manufacturer’s instructions is best, the information below is generally sound advice for cleaning most toaster ovens.

Do not use abrasive cleaners, metal utensils or metal scouring pads for cleaning any interior or exterior surface of the oven or its accessory parts.

Before doing any kind of cleaning, you need to make sure that the oven is turned off and unplugged.  If it has just been used, then you must also wait until it has cooled down.

To clean the exterior, wipe it with a soft damp sponge or lint-free cloth.  You may use a non-abrasive cleaner, but do not spray it directly onto the oven surface.  Instead, apply the cleanser to the sponge or cloth.

For cleaning the glass door, you can use a non-abrasive glass cleaner with a soft damp sponge.  Just don’t use anything that will scratch the surface.  It is important to follow your toaster oven’s cleaning instructions properly because if proper care is not administered, the glass door can literally explode and shatter into pieces.  Some models are more susceptible to this than others, however, caution should be taken with all models as reports of this happening can be found in customer reviews.

To clean the interior walls, a non-abrasive liquid cleanser or mild liquid soap solution may be applied to a soft damp sponge or damp cloth and used to wipe down any spattered food.  Again, make sure you apply the cleanser to the sponge or cloth and not directly on the walls.

For cleaning the heating elements, extreme caution must be taken.  Double check that the oven is turned off, unplugged, and cool.  Then, gently rub a soft damp sponge or cloth along the length of the heating element.  DO NOT use any type of cleanser or cleaning agent for cleaning the heating elements.

The crumb tray should be emptied regularly or preferably after each use.  Slide out the crumb tray and discard any food particles caught by it.  Then, wipe it with a soft damp sponge or cloth.  A non-abrasive liquid cleanser may be used to remove stains.  Some crumb trays are dish washer safe, so refer to your owner’s manual to see if yours is.  Also, make sure to insert the crumb tray prior to inserting the plug back in.

Many wire racks, dip trays, and broiling pans can be used in the dishwasher.  However, check your user manual or with the manufacturer to verify this.  To extend the life of your accessories, it is best to wash these by hand using warm soapy water and a soft sponge.  Rinse and dry thoroughly.

After you have wiped down and cleaned any surface, make sure everything has dried thoroughly before inserting the plug back into the wall outlet.

By cleaning your toaster oven on a regular basis it will not only perform better, but also remove grease build up and food particles that can potentially start a fire.
