Cuisinart makes some of the best toaster ovens, and the TOB-155 is another one of them.  It is consistently a best seller and has one of the highest approval ratings with over 90% of customers giving it a rating of four stars or higher.

A major attraction to the Cuisinart TOB-155 is its looks.  It is a two-toned toaster oven with the top and sides being black matte and the front panels being stainless steel.  This two-toned look was for some the deciding factor when choosing between the TOB-195 and the TOB-155.  Overall, customers reported that the toaster oven looked great and was made of solid material.

Customers did have differing opinions, however, when it came to the size of the toaster oven.  For some the large size is a positive and for others it is a negative.  They did say that having the controls located below the oven as opposed to the side does reduce the footprint, though.

Toasting & Cooking

Like the TOB-195 model, the Cuisinart TOB-155 was built to accommodate people with a busy schedule.  Customers reported that the toaster oven heats up quickly and with its Exact Heat™ sensor, it toasts and bakes evenly every time.   It is also multifunctional and versatile with its Pizza/Bake, Broil,  and Toast options as well as its large capacity.  Combined, these features have allowed the TOB-155 to function as a replacement or 2nd oven for customers.

The Pizza/Bake function allows you to bake anything from a 12″ pizza, a roasted chicken, to pies and cakes.  Again, customers liked the fact that the TOB-155 bakes evenly and more quickly than their regular ovens.  They did warn though that because the toaster oven has a more compact design than a regular full oven that the food will cook faster.  So, be mindful of this when following recipes.  If it gives you a range in cooking times, go with the lesser.

Broiling is also fast and easy and similar to the bake function, customers really didn’t have anything negative to say.

For toasting, the TOB-155 allows for a wide range of breads, English muffins and bagels – all of which customers said worked perfectly.  The toaster oven can easily toast up to 6 large slices and comes with 7 levels of browning settings to choose from, allowing you to find the perfect setting for your desired taste.  This is done easily with a simple touch of a button that either increases or decreases the darkness.  Moreover, the browning selection is indicated at the bottom of the clock display and will remain in the oven’s memory until you change it.

Another feature customers liked with toasting was the defrost setting.  This feature defrosts and then toasts frozen bread or waffles by adding time to the toast cycle chosen by the browning control.  Customers said this was a nice feature and that it didn’t dry out their food.

Overall, customers loved the way the Cuisinart TOB-155 cooks and toasts stating that it is always even and accurate.  They did mentioned though that the toast cycle seems to take a little bit longer than other toaster ovens.

Using the Cuisinart TOB-155

The Cusinart TOB-155 has state-of-the-art electronic touch-pad controls, which most customers found easy to navigate and preferred over the standard dials that usually come with toaster ovens.  In case you find the controls confusing, however, the instruction manual does a good job of explaining how it all works.  Also, because the control panel is located below the oven, it frees up some counter space which customers appreciated.

The digital controls, as you can see from the picture below, are clearly labeled and the LCD screen displays the cooking time and the exact heat temperature of the oven.  This exact heat feature was something that a lot of customers said was important (the feature maintains the set temperature accurately) and something that differentiated the Cuisinart TOB-155 (and the TOB-195) from other toaster ovens.

The TOB-155 also comes with a timer that doesn’t let you forget that you have something in the oven.  It beeps five times when the set temperature is reached, and when the cooking time has finished, it will beep until it is turned off.  For this feature, customers had mixed opinions.  Some felt that the beep was loud and somewhat annoying while others liked that it made it easier to hear.

Customers also reported that cleaning the Cuisinart TOB-155 (and TOB-195) was easy due to its large interior and removable crumb tray.  The digital controls are equally easy to wipe clean.

The Cuisinart TOB-155 comes with a large and fairly nice quality broiler pan and baking pan/drip tray.   Although some customers mentioned that the pan does warp at high temperatures, but snaps back by itself if you rotate it.

Customers also mentioned that the instruction manual was very thorough and also included some nice recipes that work perfectly with the TOB-155.

Customer Wishes & Complaints

Customers had the same wishes and complaints as with Cuisinart TOB-195 model.  Many wished that the crumb tray was accessible from the front instead of the back.  All liked that the toaster oven had a removable crumb tray, but would have preferred it to have been easier to access.

Having an interior light also would have been a nice feature.  Because the toaster oven has a large capacity, it can make it difficult at times to see everything inside without a light.  This tends to be a common feature lacking in large high-end toaster ovens, though.  Hopefully manufacturers will keep this in mind for future models.

The Cuisinart TOB-155 & 195 models also don’t have racks that automatically eject when opening like the Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven has.  Some customers didn’t mind this as this is similar to how a regular oven functions, but we think this would have been a beneficial feature nonetheless.

As with the TOB-195, this model also has the same issue with the back of the door handle heating up.  The door handle is safe to touch, but the chrome strip located behind the door handle does get quite hot and if you accidentally touch this part it could burn you.  Therefore, to avoid potential knuckle burns, we recommend using an oven mitt or opening the door palm up.  As long as you are aware that this area gets hot and are careful when opening or closing the door, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Summary of the Cuisinart TOB-155

The Cuisinart TOB-155 is an excellent toaster oven. If you aren’t looking for the convection fan feature, then this really is your best bet.  It toasts and bakes wonderfully and most who purchase it are very pleased.  The price tag is probably more than what most people would like it to be, but the truth is that these days it is very difficult to find a quality made toaster oven that both toasts and bakes well for under $100.

It is also true that the trim behind the door heats up and that the TOB-155 doesn’t have an interior light, but overall we think issues such as these are minor and fail in comparison to the other great things the toaster oven does.
