The Cuisinart TOB-195 was built to accommodate people with a busy schedule.  Taking only a few minutes to warm up as opposed to a conventional oven, the Cuisinart TOB-195 is very convenient.  It also serves as a replacement oven for a lot of people since many customers view it at as a full oven, but in reduced size.

Stating that it looked “professional” and “sophisticated,” most customers loved the way the Cuisinart TOB-195 looked on their counters.    The only gripe people had was that it wasn’t completely stainless steel.

Toasting & Cooking

The number one reason people love this toaster oven is because it toasts and cooks so well and does it so much faster than a normal full oven.  There are four versatile cooking options to choose from: pizza/bake, broil, toast, and convection – all of which customers were more than pleased with.

The Pizza/Bake function heats up in no time (about 3 min. to reach 350°) and can reach an interior temperature of 500 degrees – this was something customers were really happy with stating that some toaster ovens claim to reach this temperature, but in reality don’t.  On the whole, no matter if they were baking cookies or a 12″ pizza, customers loved how fast it was and how the food turned out.

For the toast function, the preset settings work wonderfully and no matter if you like your bread lightly toasted or prefer it darker, you will find the Cuisinart TOB-195 can make it just the way you like by simply lowering or raising the settings. You also have complete control over whether the top or down burners are on.  It may take a couple of tries initially to find the settings you like, but we are confident you’ll eventually find the perfect toast setting for your bread, bagel, or English muffin – at least most customers were able to.  Many also commented that the unit toasts evenly.

Customers also found the convection oven feature to be terrific for faster baking.  Some, however, also mentioned that because the toaster oven already heats up so fast, that they didn’t need to use the option that much.

As with all of the cooking and toasting functions, customers also had virtually no complaints about the broil function.  In fact, customers consistently said each function made “perfect” and then the food they cooked with it.

Lastly, because of its large interior space, the Cuisinart TOB-195 is also very versatile.  Customers loved the fact that they could do almost all of their cooking in it.  The space is large enough to cook a variety of things such as a whole chicken, a 12″ pizza, or 6 slices of toast.

Using the Cuisinart TOB-195

The Cuisinart TOB-195 comes with state-of-the-art electronic touch-pad controls, which are conveniently located below the unit.  The digital controls are clearly labeled and the LCD screen shows you the cooking time and exactly what temperature you are cooking at.  This is a feature many customers liked because it eliminates a lot of the guess work and the temperature is spot on.

The toaster oven also beeps to let you know when it has hit the desired preheating temperature and also lets you know when the item is done.  A handy feature that helps you get consistent results and not burn your food.

Most people found the controls pretty easy to use and straight forward, but some admitted that reading the manual did help.  We always recommend reading the manual anyway as this will ensure best cooking results with the toaster oven.  Overall, having digital controls comes down to personal preference.   Some people love them, others prefer the standard dials.  In our opinion, digital is a plus.

Customers also found cleaning the Cuisinart TOB-195 to be easy with its large interior space and non-stick walls.  They also mentioned that the digital buttons were easy to wipe clean as well.

The Cuisinart TOB-195 comes with a broiler pan as well as a drip/baking pan – both of which are large and sturdy.  A nice feature of the pan is that the center is slightly raised, which allows the drippings to flow to the sides of the pan.  This is useful for cooking greasy foods.  It keeps down the grease collection and spatters so that there is virtually no cleanup after use.

The toaster oven also comes with a very thorough instruction manual covering everything you need to know.  As an added bonus, it also includes some very delicious recipes that work well for this oven.

Customer Wishes & Complaints

One thing customers would have liked to have seen changed was the crumb tray.  While customers liked the fact that the toaster oven had a crumb tray, they didn’t like that it could only be accessed from behind.  A front access crumb tray would have been preferred.  The reason for the rear access crumb tray could be because the designers at Cuisinart sacrificed a little in the convenience department for the oven’s overall look.  By not having the crumb tray visible from the front, the toaster oven is more aesthetically pleasing.

Another issue some people had with the Cuisinart TOB-195 was that the rack doesn’t automatically pull out when the door opens.  Thus, you need to be careful when placing food on or off the rack.   However, many people didn’t see this as that big of an issue since most full ovens are already like this.  Regardless, we think all would agree that having an automatic eject rack would have been a nice feature to have.

Some people also mentioned that the oven was a little loud.  But, this is a common complaint with toaster ovens with convection fans.  As time goes on and as the convection fan receives more use, it can become louder.

If you are looking for a high end toaster oven with a front access crumb tray, an automatic pull out tray, and a quiet convection fan, see our review on the  Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven.

Many customers also wished the Cuisinart TOB-195 came with an interior light.  Because of its large interior space, some people found it difficult to see without a light.   Hopefully in the future more manufactures will start to include this as the Cuisinart TOB-195 isn’t the only high end toaster oven without this feature.

The last common complaint people had with the Cuisinart TOB-195 was that it gets hot to the touch, particularly along the chrome strip located behind the door handle.  To clarify, the door handle is safe and cool to the touch, but the area behind the handle does get hot.  Most of the issues came from people’s knuckles touching this metal part and getting burned.   Others mentioned that this wasn’t a problem for them at all and said the issue may be due to people with large hands.  In either case, it is important to be aware that this area gets hot and to heed caution while handling the door.  To avoid contact with the metal part, some people found it better to open the door palm up instead of palm down.

Also, as with most ovens, the exterior of the Cuisinart TOB-195 gets hot,  especially since the interior temperature can reach 500 °.  Our advice is to just keep in mind that this is an oven and some parts will get hot.  However, if you take the normal safety and precautionary measures, you should be fine.

Summary of the Cuisinart TOB-195

With an average customer rating of 4.5 stars, the Cuisinart TOB-195 is a fantastic toaster oven and at this price range, it’s the best you’ll find.  Yes, an interior light would have been helpful.  Yes, a rear access crumb tray is less convenient than a front access one. Yes, the metal area behind the handle heats up (but as long as you are aware of that, there shouldn’t be any problems).  Overall, we believe all of those issues just mentioned are minor and fail in comparison to all of the great things the toaster oven does.  If you can afford it, we think the convenience that the convection fan brings, along with the excellent quality of the Cuisinart TOB-195, it is well worth the price.
